Royal Opera House | Don Quixote

Margo Selby was commissioned by the Royal Opera House to design a bespoke fabric to tie in with the production run for their ballet Don Quixote. Scarves, cushions, bags and purses – inspired by the costumes and stage design of the ballet. Taking inspiration from the Spanish heat and romance of Cervantes’ classic novel.

Don Quixote forms the sixth collaboration with the Royal Opera House following the success of Magic Flute, Rigoletto, Carmen, Swan lake and Boheme. Designed to capture the bold linear shapes of the new architecture and decorative splendor of the building.

The commissioned fabrics are woven from silk and a heat shrink yarn in a double cloth structure to create a three dimensional quality – a wearable piece of art. The tones of the cloth are jewel like, changing colour to reflect the directional light.
