Celebrating Wool Month |
Why we weave with wool

In celebration of Wool Month, we wanted to highlight why Margo, known for her colourful textile designs, has a strong affinity to working with wool in both her art and products.

“Wool is a wonderful material for versatility and we use it across many of the projects and products we work on in the studio. In addition to holding colour beautifully, it has inherent features which I love including softness, warmth and renewability. In the UK our spinners and mills are experts with wool and we love to support them wherever possible to showcase their industrial craftsmanship.”

- Margo Selby

Part of Margo’s practice is seeking out expert wool producers and weaving mills. Our Detta and Puck super soft scarves are woven using the finest Merino wool fibres at a specialist mill in Scotland. Produced in a limited run, these designs showcase the vibrancy and saturation of colour that can be achieved in wool.

The inherent qualities of wool make it an exceptional choice for crafting enduring, high-quality pieces. As such, it serves as the cornerstone material of our rug collection. This remarkable natural fibre undergoes meticulous processing by skilled artisans; spinners, dyers, knotters, and carvers. Each contributing their expertise to bring Margo’s rug designs to life.

In developing our Rag + Bone upholstery and soft furnishing fabric collection, we were excited to find a mill, specialising in sustainable wool, keen and able to produce single-width repeats with an extensive colour palette – this gave our design team extraordinary freedom and flexibility to realise ideas. 40% of the weft yarn fibres are produced from recycled wool jumpers – GRS (Global Recycling Standard Certified). The textile waste is gathered into similar batches of colours, shredded back to fibre, combed, and then re-spun into yarn.

For the ambitious art installation moon landing British wool for the weft yarn along with fine silk threads which stitch the geometric shapes together.

“I have always been interested in working with wool for its beautiful texture, strength and sustainable qualities. As a fibre wool takes on colour brilliantly providing me with the rich and vibrant palette which was so essential to the moon landing artwork”.
