Young Masters
Young Masters celebrates artistic skill and innovation, with awareness of the Old Masters and art of the past.
Margo Selby has been selected for the Young Masters Art Exhibition, Part 1 opening in London this week. The exhibition is spread across 2 neighbouring venues, The Exhibitionist and The Gainsborough hotels.
Margo's two selected pieces situate her work with other contemporary artists working in all mediums, celebrating skill and innovation in practice with awareness of the Old Masters and art of the past.
There are many theoretical approaches in Renaissance and Old Master painting that carry through the years that I find relevant to my work. The two key areas I find link my work in particular are mathematics and colour; the division of a plane, the golden section and fibonacci sequence, and the chromatic use of chiaroscuro, maximising high contrast in tone using colour and light.
The other connection between my work and that of the Renaissance artists, is that my practice has a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. I take on commissions for industry and public space as well as exploring my own personal practice.
