Love Welcomes
Social Enterprise
2019 - Ongoing
Love Welcomes is a social enterprise working to give refugee women long-term income-generating skills.
In 2019 Margo began her association with Love Welcomes, travelling to Greece with co-founder Abi Hewitt, to lead workshops with Syrian refugees learning to weave a collection of products, using salvaged life jackets and blankets. Margo was appointed a trustee of Love Welcomes in 2020.
In February 2022 Margo ran patchworking workshops to design and make the first ‘Patchwork Art Blankets’, using textile remnants from our studio. The initial series of 25 sold out within hours of being offered online, with 100% of the profits going to Love Welcomes, and the women they support.
Each blanket is a unique composition; colour blocks and patterns of varying scales are constructed and stitched together with an instinctive and freeform approach – ‘my way’ like Gee’s Bend. They are an idiosyncratic archive of Margo Selby design filtered through the sensibilities of the makers and the collaborative process of making.
“The makers of Love Welcomes are much more than refugees. They are creative, talented artisans. They are resilient, resourceful human beings. They are kind, funny individuals. By supporting these incredible women and buying their products, you're taking action to build a brighter future where humanity shines.”
