The Craft of Hand Knotted Rugs
Our hand knotted rugs, such as the Sophia, are crafted using a traditional asymmetrical knotting technique; this creates a premium quality long lasting rug, with intricate design detail.
Margo visited our rug making partners in the Varanasi region of India during the making process of this rug, witnessing the knotting and hand carving - this step is meticulously undertaken by hand, ensuring each individual circular motif is defined, creating a 3-dimensional profile.
The team make regular trips out to India to nurture our relationships and continue to work directly with our makers, some of whom we have worked directly with for over 30 years.
Sophia Design Notes | An asymmetric grid with overlaid polka dots Sofia hand knotted rug features bubbles of varying scale – in turquoise, aquamarine and petrel blue, on neutrals, lapis and acid – a colourful patchwork of dots.
Our portfolio of hand knotted rugs are available in your choice of 100% wool, or wool & silk, in either 60-knot or 100-knot per inch.
