Margo Selby is a British textiles artist and designer, now celebrating the 20th anniversary of her brand and weaving studio.

To commemorate this milestone, we are launching 2 very special edition textured bed linens, Willesden and Whitstable. These incorporate some of the signature motifs that have featured in studio designs over the past 20 years.

Margo is renowned for her unique approach to colour and geometric pattern, and awarded the 2021 Colour Group (GB) Turner Medal for ‘Britain’s Greatest Colourist’.

The Willesden and Whitstable designs embody the essence of the brand; geometrics, colour and surface texture. These designs have been in development for over 2 years, working with a Portuguese specialist mill, balancing colours and using ‘BCI better cotton’ to create the unique woven texture.

Margo started her company weaving in her bedroom in Willesden in 2003, moving to a workshop and retail gallery space in Bloomsbury in 2007. In 2012 the looms and business relocated to Whitstable in Kent, where the current weaving studio and showroom are thriving. The new designs are named after these poignant locations for the business.

The Willesden and Whitstable designs draw on the archive of over 20 years of Margo Selby woven fabric. The designs combine Margo’s technical expertise in textile construction, recognisable pattern formation and love of colour. The embossed surface is achieved through a specialist weaving method using two beams of varying yarn tension on the loom, similar to a traditional seersucker. This complex technique gives the graphic patterns a 3-dimensional quality.
